Lumbini Park is a part of the Buddha Poornima project developed by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority in 1994 and since then, it has become an ideal place of relaxation and a place of amusement. The park has been named after the garden that was the birth place of Siddharth, the later day Buddha. It is a hit with kids and families and has several attractions that could lure you to spend an evening away from home, with your family.

The main attractions of the park include a colourful floral clock, waterfalls and fountains. The spectacular musical dancing fountain and water cascade draws huge crowds. Normally, during summer time, three shows are organised. However, due to the upgradation work being taken up by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), currently the musical fountain show and the clock has been put off temporarily. In this park every day organize a musical fountain show at 6.30 evening. The fountains dance to the tunes of popular numbers from Hindi and Telugu film songs. This is one of the must see sight and almost the park is crowded with visitors and picnickers.

The Lumbini park is surrounded by the state Secretariat, the Hussain Sagar lake and the exotic Birla Mandir.

Hyderabad city boasts some of the finest gardens in the country. One of the city's oldest and largest garden is located in the centre of the city. It was built in the year 1846 by Nizam Government. No wonder then that it is one of the most frequented spots for school picnics. This beautifully laid out garden also houses two museums the A P State Archaelogical Museum and the Health Museum, a park where kids can play, a mini school (Jawahar Bal Bhavan) for children to learn fine arts, and an auditorium (the Indira Gandhi Auditorium). The Jubilee Hall, the Lalitha Kala Thoranam (an open-air theater which is a venue for many film festivals, fashion shows and beauty pageants), the building of the Department of Horticulture and a mosque are the other fascinating places in the premises.

Beside this garden the beautiful white structure is the Andhra Pradesh Assembly building with green lawns. In 1985 a New Legislative Assembly hall was inagurated by the then Prime Minister of
India Late Sri. Rajiv Gandhi.

Recently the government has added a huge statue of Mahatma Gandhi sitting in the praying posture looks peaceful for all. The statue adds to the beauty of the park.
